Roles and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing our clients operational teams with specialist knowledge and support relating to nuclear and radiological safety specialising in human factors to ensure ‘right first time’ compliance with regulations. We are looking for individuals to support both new-build infrastructure as well as projects relating to the development and maintenance of existing safety cases.
As a Human Factors Engineer at NESC, responsibilities will include:
- Working through our structured training programme with close support from our senior engineers;
- Investigating and analysing characteristics of human behaviour and performance relating to the use of nuclear systems and technologies supporting both defence and civil nuclear sectors;
- Contributing to the delivery of safety case projects by working as part of a nuclear safety team.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- At least one years’ experience in the application of Human Reliability Analysis
- Relevant academic qualification in an appropriate field (e.g. ergonomics, psychology, human factors or STEM).
- Flexible, adaptable, innovative and proactive approach to working and finding solutions;
- Ability to work autonomously and closely with others to solve problems;
- Willingness to learn and ability to diversify across multiple projects and disciplines;
- Experience in working in teams and ability to communicate with new groups of people at a variety of professional levels;
- Candidates must be able to satisfy basic eligibility criteria (nationality rules / right to work) and provide appropriate documentation to verify identification, nationality, employment and/or academic history, criminal record (unspent convictions only) as part of the recruitment process.
- Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain Security Clearance.
Other Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge of relevant Human Factors assessment techniques such as THERP and HEART.
