December 2024
In December, Max competed at the British Championships and wanted to share some exciting updates. Since his success in Italy, he has made the decision to move to the -100kg category. His two best results of the year were in this weight group, rather than the usual -90kg, so it felt like “the right step forward”.
At the Championships, Max competed in the -100kg category and was thrilled to come away with a silver medal. This was his first British Championships since 2021, having missed previous years due to injury, so it was a special moment to be back on the home stage, showing what he is capable of.
Max won three fights to secure a spot in the final, where he narrowly lost by a wazari to his current training partner. He said “It was a tightly contested match, and I’m proud of my performance given the recent transition to a new weight class.”
Adding to the day’s significance, he had the privilege of being coached by his dad for the competition. Usually, the Team GB coach supports him at international events, so it is a meaningful experience to have his dad in the chair.
“Thank you for your continued support, I am always proud to fly the NESC flag when I compete. I’m excited about what’s ahead this year and will keep you updated on my progress.”
