We graduated with master's degrees in Environmental Studies from the University of Plymouth in 2024, gaining valuable skills in time management, networking, and collaborative teamwork that contribute to our professional growth. In September 2024, we joined NESC, where we began specialized safety training led by experienced in-house engineers.
During the three-month training period, we focused on various types of safety assessments needed to produce a safety case. Throughout this time, we worked closely together to deepen our understanding and ensure a smooth transition into project work, allowing us to contribute effectively. Following the training, many of us became involved in projects within the safety, environmental, and assurance sectors, collaborating with industry partners. Our next step will be undergoing submarine training to gain knowledge of the systems we will be conducting safety work on.
As the first group of graduates to start at the same time, we have been able to grow professionally together. Each of us has been assigned a supervisor to guide and support us in project work. Additionally, NESC has introduced a mentoring program designed to help graduates with career development, including chartership, making the transition from university to the workplace seamless.
